User Reviews for Magnifier APP
I couldn’t see the use vs just the camera, but played a bit and think I get it now. In a lit room it seemed the same. However, in the dark I could see things in this app that wouldn’t be seen on camera without light or taking a photo then looking at it in Google photos (more files to delete, just to see/read something), since I can’t use flashlight app w/camera. Might be useful just walking when it’s so dark you can’t see. Maybe; haven’t tested that yet.🙂 Dark restaurant menu next. 🤞🏽

Great magnifier without ads. I’ve been using another magnifier but the ads became annoying and was not worth the cost to remove them. This app fills the gap.
Great to see a magnifier app directly from Google. The contrast and flashlight adjustment settings are great. I also appreciate the ability to take a still image of something to view clearly without it saving to your device /Google Photos. However, I still find myself using the camera app / video mode + the screen magnifier for a more “stable” view of something I need to quickly see or read. (Pixel 6)
Although this app works for it’s intended purposes, using the standard Camera app works just as well for me. Some reviewed that this app is clearer than the default Camera app, but for on my device this app fails to auto focus. Camera app always focuses for me, so thanks for the idea, but I’ll keep the space used by this for something else.
this app is great for viewing stuff live but I wish I could use its zoom and filter features on photos I took with the normal camera app. like if I took a picture quickly of the menu at a restaurant. having to start with this app to use it on an image is a limitation for sure, but the photos app doesn’t have the same nice zoom and filter options this has. let us open existing images with Magnifier and we’ll get the best of both worlds :-)
Used Magnifier on Colorado summits to see 100+ miles—subjectively sharper, more stable than Google Camera’s zoom. Freeze-frame scenes without saving photos, tweak contrast or brightness on the fly, and keep your gallery clutter-free. Built for accessibility, it’s genuinely helpful for hikers and travelers. Best on Pixel 5+. Quietly powerful, intuitive, and highly recommended.
As a person who was walking around the house using a magnifying glass from time to time, I find this to be adequate. it does what it’s supposed to and more. I’ve used it for different things such as taking pictures with my pixel phone as well as other things besides reading, directions and Etc, a flashlight function works great. you’re trying to read even if it’s dark. I have no problems with it
Nice clean app with just the controls you need. Manual lighting control works great. The only problem I have, and it’s pretty big(FIXED….see update below), is at certain zoom levels the app switches back and forth between different lenses and near impossible to get a clear image. The app NEEDS an option to lock the lens or pick the lens to prevent this! This is on P8Pro, likely affects others. Update!! Since the August 13 app update, Manual Lens control works great! Thank you coders!
I just downloaded this app and quickly tried it. In that short time, I have to say that it’s the best magnifier I’ve used yet. It focuses quickly, the enhanced view is very nice, and I love the various colored contrasts like yellow on black, black and white or yellow/blue etc. making it easier to read. The flashlight works very well with this app also. It will be great for reading price tags, restaurant menus, grocery boxes and more. I am very happy with this app! Thank you Google!
The Magnifier app is a helpful tool for improving your vision. It allows you to zoom in, brighten, and adjust contrast to aid your vision. You can use your camera to magnify small text, see object details, or zoom in on faraway text like street signs or restaurant menus behind a service counter. The app also offers visual effects to make low contrast text more visible. In low light environments, the brightness is automatically adjusted for better visibility.
Does what it promises, without ads. 4x and 8x magnifications are jittery and not very useful, but that’s not the app’s fault. 1x provides a fair enlargement, despite the name, and adds a ton of contrast. Very handy for reading labels, tiny ingredient lists, and price tags.
I’m glad Google finally made this and they need to make more apps for people with disabilities. But the image quality in this app is horrible. Unless your outside in sunlight the image quality when zoomed in is really bad. My other free magnifier app blows this one out of the water. But it’s a start I suppose, as long as they improve on it and didn’t just shove this out there just to say they have it.
Great app for helping me read the ingredients of foods and shampoo bottles, especially on non-UK products as they tend to use far smaller text. I had been using the camera app but this is just easier. The surprising thing is that the reviews on Play for the app seem to be positive rather than haters who don’t understand how to use the app.
This is (ahem) magificent. I’m glad to have it. With it, I can read fine print, or (on a Pixel 7 Pro) zoom across the room to read a sign on the wall in a busy pub (“Ah, *that’s* what the specials are!”). I have it set up so two taps on the back of the phone open the magnifier, and I use it nearly every day.
I would give five stars if the option to enable geolocation data was available. Occasionally close up images will not focus accurately. Also a few times the color of an object on the screen was significantly different than the actual color of the object with my eyes. Otherwise a great app.
Would be nice if this was available for the P9PF. Not exactly sure why it isn’t. Other than not being accessible to all “Pixel 5 newer phones” as stated it’s a great app.
very cool concept , but needs much improvement, doesn’t get much better quality than my camera app. if the detail and zoom can be improved, this app could be seriously impressive and helpful.
Very useful, especially for those of us who rely on reading glasses! Works very well.
I discovered this app through the accessibility options on my Pixel 7. I have been using my camera as a magnifying lens for years. This app elevates the camera by leaps and bounds as a standalone magnifier. It’s perfect for the tiny print I can’t see and for things I cannot reach. I love that it’s an official Google app like others I trust.
Love the app but it would greatly benefit from haveing a manual focus setting! Edit: I was thinking a slider so that you could set the phone a distance away from your subject and then focus in on it. However, I didn’t know about the long press to lock the focus and that works just as well. Love it. Thanks
