The match is played with a standard fifty-two cards' deck and involves four participants on the table. The dealer and participants' playing directions are decided before the match starts. The dealer deals thirteen cards to each participant in a counter-clockwise direction. Players must call the number of tricks they expect to triumph each round and aim to play their cards as high as possible, with spades being the trump card.

In Ringbreak, participants taking at least as many tricks as their calls get tallys equal to their calls. Over tricks will be worth an additional 0.1 tallys each, and markers will be deducted equal to the calls if they do not meet them.
