User Reviews for Windy APP

I really wish I had had this plethora of information this app provides when I was forecasting for a living in the Navy oh so many years ago. And it’s all free!! The radar isn’t as fine granular as in some other apps, but it is world wide!! I didn’t eve know China had weather radar!! And when I was forecasting I didn’t have the access to all the different models that this app provides. This app is actually slightly better than the web-based app, which has a few frustrating glitches. Using this app, I was able to determine accurately that weren’t going to get snow or freezing rain this morning but rather a short period of ice pellets. I couldn’t have pulled it off with the tools that I had available to me 30 years ago.

For the small annual cost I find this app the best value for getting all kinds of meteorological information. Not only locally but also for watching weather events around the world.

Great app, fun to use. I wish you could use the nems on the map instead of a point forecast, but I’m sure there is some access issue with it. Also, it is confusing that on map( for something like snow accumulation). the nam has a 3 day option but it actually is only a 48 hour forecast and so when you click on 3 day nothing happens.

Great visualization but you missed a target demographic of users…Truck drivers. If you could add a US highway system and better city center locations overlay that would be really helpful. Otherwise it’s a fantastic app. EDIT: I’ll give you that 5th star when you add visible highways to the map. It’s not that difficult… they’re already there and they don’t move.

I live in South Texas I have used Windy for 8+ years and they have the most accurate long range forecast for tropical activities and as a professional tug boat captain it is very important to steer clear of hazardous conditions. Love this app.

The latest updates have become very buggy here. Satellite view doesn’t load properly most of the time, and when it does, the animation often doesn’t play. Zooming in and out sometimes works. Previous versions worked well. I’ll change my rating to five stars once the latest issues are resolved.

I have been using this app for some years. I find it a very good app with reliable forecasts for the Dutch coast.

I would this 5 stars because it’s fantastic, BUT: Since the recent update, colours don’t show in the wave layer. This used to be an occasional bug, now it seems permanent. And now, (August 2023), there’s no wave data at all. It’s what I used the most. I won’t uninstall just yet, but I am on the verge of doing so. “How to wreck a brilliant app”.

As a Transportation Manager for the Bismarck, division of Henry’s Foods (Based in Alexandria, MN) I have to keep an eye on the weather that my drivers might have to contend with. There’s an immense amount of information that can be accessed when dealing with bad weather. That being said, this app seems to be designed for those who understand meteorological phenomena better than the Lay Person. I would like to see a more simplified menu for those of us who need basic information.

Would be very useful to be able to zoom in on the weather data. Depending on the colour, it can be very difficult to read the wind speeds, and short of taking a screen shot, there is no way to zoom in.

As a farmer, a weather app is much needed. For years I was using the Storm app. It gave me alerts when rain was about to start, nearby lightning strikes, and weather alerts. The radar was always on point too. The colors were defined. If there was any color overhead, 99% of the time there was some sort of precipitation occurring. Windy doesn’t send notifications, and I can’t trust the radar colors. Half the time a system will look bigger on Windy than another app. If changes were made, I’d use.

At times I check apps out of curiosity but apps with screen hogging advertising are uninstalled at once. I just don’t want google to take over my phone. Maybe you need this app. I don’t. Not really. But good luck with the project.

[g=pijiu] Cool enough app, but you can’t just log in on a new device and expect your Premium status to be recognized. You have to dig through your emails for a FastSpring order confirmation code and enter it manually into the app. And it never works without having to contact support. I don’t believe I should have to go out of my way to prove I’m a paying customer after logging in. That’s the singular purpose of logging in. I’ve canceled my renewal and will be trying other alternatives. Really too bad.

Love the advanced weather model data! Especially the winds at multiple Altitudes. I can even see the Jetstream above 400 mb level. It goes All the way up to the 250 mb level, almost 40,000 feet. Also, I can see model data from the EURO, GFS models in one easy to use app. Plus the fire data is unparalleled. Nice radar, precipitation, clouds, air quality. It’s almost my main weather app. I just would like graphical hourly data for local regions. The local data in Windy, is not as detailed.
