The Centre for Geographic Information Systems (CGIS) in the Ministry of Municipality of the State of Qatar has developed an Android application called "Al-Murshid" ("The Guide" in Arabic). The app is designed to provide geospatial services and displays aerial/satellite imagery and vector maps of streets, street names, and landmarks for the State of Qatar. Users can search and locate land parcels, landmarks, and geographic names by entering a few letters and selecting from available lists. The app also provides the Qatar Area Reference System (QARS) to find building numbers, street numbers, zone numbers, and addresses. With GPS and location services enabled, users can locate their current position and navigate to recycling container locations. The app requires GPS/location services to be activated on the device. Further enhancements are expected.
