User Reviews for TP-Link Tether APP
I agree with Withkeys Quilkert. “It does what it does best. Access to the router configuration through the cloud as well as locally on network in an easy GUI. However, more needs to be done to secure access to it besides just a password for cloud account. They need to allow multi-factor authentication and track logins to the cloud account. Until they address that, I do not recommend allowing the wifi router access over the cloud. Once password is compromised, it gives unauthorized users access.

family’s website blocking doesn’t work for BE550, it blocks all webpages instead of just the specified domains
Glitchy. Many times, instead of showing already configured Parental controls, it displays a page with what is it. And no ability to see configured settings. I had to kill the app, start again and go there quickly to change controls.
After using custom flashed firmwares forever now, I was surprised at the configurability of this router. The panel is laid out pretty well, though it does have a few quirks. I’ll chalk them up to “growing pains” in having to familiarize myself with a new device’s settings. I was going to leave off a star, because it didn’t connect easily and I couldn’t change certain settings until it was online. I was stuck in setup wizard mode, which is not the app’s fault. Since I am rating the app it’s rad!
I just wonder, why my other Android devices are unable to connect to the router with the same credentials, unlike my first registered device which is a phone. And they’re connected directly with cable. Every time I have to log-in, sometime even twice. But, that’s not important.
Limited features. Would be good to be able to upgrade the firmware
tp-link has been really great. and the more recent ax55 is a great product. the only thing it’s the tether app. The report section should be free at least for a more in depth of what’s happening even on a home network.
awesome experience and more control over my internet than I’ve ever had, while being the most accessible and intuitive. I’ve always had to use a browser to login, only to get clunky router settings that over complicate things. This is fast and easy and ill never accept less from this point on. It raised the bar.
Dark mode would be good for this app when viewing my TP-link products.
Awesome app keep going 👍👍👍
Good app, I just wish it had a dark mode
VERY GOODDD
Froze on Samsung Galaxy Tab A tablet but worked on Samsung A-51. Good enough but still PITA.
this app has improved so much I really enjoy it now. I like having individual profiles for family members and being able to name the devices is very helpful. Sometimes it is a little bit slow in updating info but the positives outshine this minor inconvenience.
10 out of 10. Couldn’t get the extender to work using the other methods in the accompanying manual until I used the Tether app..
It’s ok for basic controls of the router. My main annoyance is that it doesn’t echo the web interface when I took the time to name all networked devices. With many IoT devices connected, I can not easily see if a certain device is connected. Also, it doesn’t show every connected device on the app as the web interface does when viewing thru a PC/Chromebook. The app is missing more than half of the 20+ devices that are on the network!
Overall the TP Link Tether app has worked extremely well. Easy to understand User Interface. I am using android 16. Tether has developed a glitch. Total Traffic Use has stopped functioning. Something very nice to have, but does not interfere with day to day use.
Normally a Netgear user, but decided to try th AX3000 from TP-Link. So far I am pretty happy. My Samsung devices are having a rough time with the 5GHz connection, but the connection is stable, just the speed is not there ([but I am getting over 250mbps down and 175mbps up).
Easy setup for the new AX1500 fromWM for $69. I can actually see a difference on with pages loading quicker compared to my 3 yr old NETG*** AC1200. To make the setup seamless and not have to reprogram any of my smart devices, I just used the same SSID’s and passwords from my old router. Saved settings and boom! Everything back up and running in a minute or 2. Wish it had a USB port. Kind of expected it to have one like most routers @ this price, but I’ll get over it for $69.
tp link repeaters are not plug and play. lots of problems to setup which is why there are multiple ways. switching to access point mode is trial and error. plan to spend hours if you have to call for tech support. wait times are very long.
This is device specific, so if you need it…well, you could just get up and push a button on the extender if you weren’t so lazy. Otherwise, you can do some maintenance easier with the app. Rebooting though? One button after I get my coffee and walk by my extender, or I forgot and don’t want to get up again.
