User Reviews for TP-Link Tether APP

I agree with Withkeys Quilkert. “It does what it does best. Access to the router configuration through the cloud as well as locally on network in an easy GUI. However, more needs to be done to secure access to it besides just a password for cloud account. They need to allow multi-factor authentication and track logins to the cloud account. Until they address that, I do not recommend allowing the wifi router access over the cloud. Once password is compromised, it gives unauthorized users access.

App is a bit of an “amateurs” tool and suitable for inexperienced IT owners. It doesn’t present an interface for the experienced router/modem manager IT specialist. For the newbie or home owner it certainly allows you to service your router/devices. But for the pro it is very frustrating if you wish to manager a complex or unusual wifi/network. it lacks any interface for the expert.

I am really impressed with the tp-link.. WiFi router! Setup was super easy.. and the app made it simple to configure settings. The WiFi signal is strong and reliable, even in areas of my home that were previously dead zones. The router’s performance has been consistent, and I’ve experienced minimal lag or drops. Highly recommend for anyone looking for high-performance router

Update: Tech support sent me a beta firmware file that fixed the issue. Original Post: This app was working great until the firmware on my AX55 (AX3000) router was updated. Now all I get is a dialog telling me to connect to the correct network or move closer. This happens with either the local or cloud instance of my router on the app’s router list. I did find that if I turn the phone wi-fi off and use mobile data, I can connect using this app to the cloud instance of the router. Weird!

The Tether app gives a lot of flexibility for controlling your router that you don’t always get from other routers’ apps. You still have to connect to your router via web browser, or direct through a cable connected to your computer, for more advanced options. That said, this app gives a lot of control right from your phone.

So far so good. New… Update- the app couldn’t be easier to use, and it has features that enable you to check your connections anywhere, anytime you have internet connectivity. If you see someone or something on your network you can ‘shut it down.’ I haven’t had experience with other apps of this type but this one is really simple and straightforward… I bought another router for a non-tech savvy family member who can work it no problem. Thus far I haven’t seen any ads…

Ease of setup, responsive equipment, and logically laid out menus for control. And dual band control is way easy. I enjoyed it and spent excess time exploring options, for the uninitiated, one might be intimidated. If you’re new to home or small business networking, take it easy and use the defaults, and DO NOT FORGET TO SET SECURITY, USE THE RECOMMENDATIONS, THEY ARE MORE SECURE!

Had a devil of a time logging in after downloading and creating my account. The app made me log in twice, but then said I had the wrong password. I almost reset my router, but decided to try something else. Turns out that I had to log into the account, AND THEN log into the device itself. In my case, since it’s a new router, I only had to use the admin/admin logins. Everything seems to work fine since I figured that out. Maybe the directions could have been clearer?

App works and is easy to use. The best feature I like is app based reboot and reset without having to walk to the router and look underneath it for said and password. You can change the SSID immediately after a reset via the app. The other feature is the QoS Prioritization of wifi clients especially working from home with so many devices 5Ghz capable. Finally, app based firmware update just works complete with rebooting and getting back on the internet without interruption. Good Job! Thanks!

Overall good app for kicking unwanted connections. I just wish you could add Mac address. So I wouldn’t have to reset my router. When the account holder’s puter ups dies. If I could have added the new puter to the allowed list from my phone it would have saved me so much time. But at least I can see the connections and block if needed be. IP tablet is a nice 2nd lock downs.

While the initial setup was a BREEZE, the continued use of the app leaves a bit to be desired. I would like to have an option to get a push notification when a new device connects to the network. I also cannot actually see the devices connected reliably. Sometimes over half of them just say unknown with no indication of even what type of device it is. At least then you could narrow it down possibly but as is it’s pretty useless. The router works beautifully and for that I’m grateful.
