User Reviews for TP-Link Tether APP
I agree with Withkeys Quilkert. “It does what it does best. Access to the router configuration through the cloud as well as locally on network in an easy GUI. However, more needs to be done to secure access to it besides just a password for cloud account. They need to allow multi-factor authentication and track logins to the cloud account. Until they address that, I do not recommend allowing the wifi router access over the cloud. Once password is compromised, it gives unauthorized users access.

As long as you set up according to the instructions, TP-Link is great! I see reviews of people not liking it and I could only imagine they tried going straight to their preferred location instead of setting up next to router and then moving it. BTW, I live in a 2 story and I have it set up on the second floor in the farthest corner away from the router which is downstairs!
Wonderful app for your internet no one can hack your internet if you follow what the app says and you can block unknown people.Perfect app for household people.
I have to say, this was the easiest configuration I’ve ever done for a network device. Admittedly, the diagram showed four lights instead of the two on the device… but that’s not the fault of this app, and really what lights do you need on an extender besides “Power” and “Connect”. The ability to configure it from my phone at power-up, without carrying my laptop to the outlet and finding an unused CAT-5 laying around, is pretty awesome. Next time I need a router I’ll look at TP-Link first 🙂
I have a TP-Link range extender, and it works very well. Easy config and administration with this app and I have a strong, fast connection (on 2.4Ghz) on my devices even if I’m standing outside in the street. It’s not strong, but I can still connect two houses down.
This app/router is terrible. Can’t even access the login portal through browser. None of the addresses connect to it.
no problem
I love the Tether app! And while it doesn’t provide complete access to every little router setting as I would have access to on my local network logging in to 192.168.0.1, it provides the most important functionality. I’ve given it a thorough workout over the past week setting up two different routers and two different range extenders and things just work flawlessly. I love being able to login remotely. Please make one change: put “logout” on the “Home” page. Don’t make me go looking for it! 😎
Excellent device did exactly what it says on thr box. Linking to my Virgin hub 3 no problems setup with tether virtually did it all by itself. Very rare breaks in continuity apart from 2 apps well known for oversensitivity. First reboot since installing just clear any files hanging on and this was fast and gave constant feedback on progress. Something which virgin hubs never do just have to watch lights and guess with them. Superior broadband handling well future proofed.
Hoping that router detais and status updates fast upon opening the app remotely. Deco app updates the details almost in real-time.
Nice to have a control over your router from a mobile device. But the app does not have all the features the desktop web interface has. Also, I’ve had to reinstall the app once cause it stopped detecting the router from my tablet.
Though easy to navigate, the app only governs a subset of features that are available by logging directly into the router.
Hey, the software is good. But I still need some features like daily data usage for my sim wifi because I am using a SIM internet so I need to check my data usage daily. And please add the whitelist feature for wifi users so I can only allow specific users and don’t have to block everyone that is stealing my wifi by scanning. Thanks
The speed test stopped working in a recent update, claims to be offline when connected to the internet via a router in bridge mode. Was working OK back in April.

works perfectly but sometimes it’s freezing and doesn’t work.
instructions aren’t that easy to follow. It makes assumptions. I was able to make the connection and complete after several attempts.
I like this app
Took me a while to get all the actions completed but finally understood the steps and am connected. Been waiting a while to finally install the device. But I misunderstood 2 of the steps. Not TP-Link’s fault.
If it works, it does what it should. Unfortunately, I have experienced several connection failures.
Solid app for a solid wifi router. I can’t say it’s amazing but it definitely does the job just fine. Honestly it’s a lot better then most. The total network data used tab of the app is broken though. It also says that devices that are not connected through Ethernet ARE connected through Ethernet. Everything else works fine though. The web based interface is a 10/10 though.
