User Reviews for TP-Link Tether APP

I agree with Withkeys Quilkert. “It does what it does best. Access to the router configuration through the cloud as well as locally on network in an easy GUI. However, more needs to be done to secure access to it besides just a password for cloud account. They need to allow multi-factor authentication and track logins to the cloud account. Until they address that, I do not recommend allowing the wifi router access over the cloud. Once password is compromised, it gives unauthorized users access.

Everything is good. A little slow on showing like how many or which devices are currently connected to my wifi (as it initially shows the last time updated devices connected but after a few seconds it gets updated). A little bit of small bug can be seen here and there but other than that everything is good for app control. Also I want to request the DEVs if it is possible to add the feature of MAC/IP binding in WIFI (which is seems to be only available in web login setting).

The extender really sucks for a $100 device. Like many owners have said, the extender sometimes connects sometimes doesn’t, even though the app shows that it is clearly connected. Also, takes many tries to connect a device to the extender because it doesn’t recognize the device or, in my opinion, something is wrong with the extender. The location it is plugged in is excellent as the signal has the full 5 bars. This is very frustrating.

Overall, a much simpler way to manage my wifi network. The settings are very basic compared to a web browser. It seems like it’s basically meant to check the status and change simple settings like SSIDs, passwords, etc. A few cons: It won’t let me change clients names. I click save after I change it, but it just reverts back to the original name. The Alexa bonding was very confusing. Following the steps inside the app are useless. Wish I could speed test inside the app.

Resetting the password sucks. There is no number to call that I could find. Rather than wait for someone to respond to my email I called because I would like to get my issue resolved quickly.

Confusing to set up device but doable… easiest way is to plug the extender directly into wifi router with Ethernet cable- then after setup move it further away… any way you do it (3 different ways) it takes a few minutes- also if it is the first time keep extender plugged into router look for firmware update, install if available. Then while still plugged in to router the extender will reboot to save all router passwords, extender passwords for 2.4gH and 5gH bands. Tp link apps guide you.

Very good app. However, I am unable to access the feature that has the controlling facilities which helped to limit the usages of the children. Bad side is, it takes long time to start. Therefore 4 star.

Very good app. really useful and allows useful control of the wifi extender device. It informs you of both the signal strength and best position for best results.

Works fine but it would be nice if the app was called TP-Link Tether on my phone so it’s easier to find. For the one time I need it in a year, I end up searching for the TP-Link app, but it’s under this random Tether name. So I spend extra unnecessary time trying to find the app.

The router i chose works great. When my oldest is on the 3rd floor the signal works but it is weak since it has to come through a basement and so on. I purchased the extender and it helps tremendously. The App itself is good. A few additional features would make it that much better. Letting you know your speeds, when it switches from one unit to another and the 5g could have a broader span. All in all they get the job done and keeps life moving.

TP-Link’s proprietary software is very good, but it would be much better if it had a few more features. For example, it would be nice if it could show how much network a client is using, or how long a client has been using the network, and so on.
