User Reviews for Smartify APP

Was told about this app when visiting the famous Bowes Museum in County Durham today and immediately downloaded it and tried it out. It’s brilliant. Worked perfectly (after It’s scanned you have to swipe down and left to get the info about that picture). I’m amazed at all the poor reviews but this seems mainly because of wrong expectations. It’s intended to work as an info guide for the paintings in that particular museum/gallery. It tells you loads about each painting, including pictures of other paintings by the same artist in that particular gallery. Suddenly going to an art gallery got really interesting for me! Please rate it for what it sets out to do, not what you’d thought it might do.

Nice app if you’re interested in art and artists. I was really disappointed however because it will only try to identify artworks that you take a picture of thru the app and not of any you have saved. Tried it on a painting of ours but all it did was say “scanning” but nothing else. There are NO instructions about how to use the scanning feature. Tried scanning our Renoir and Van Gogh prints without success.

Fantastic app – like attending a gallery from your armchair. Now allows you to do a text search to find what you are interested in. Good quality representations of beautiful art. It would be even better if you could look at a gallery or artist’s collection in slide show mode or by simply swiping sideways, rather than having to go in and out of each picture from the thumbnail overview. Currently swiping left brings up artist info. Also an optional home screen other than scanner, for 5 stars.

I have used this successfully in the past, but in the latest version the scan feature is broken for me and for many others as well it seems. Edit: Fixed!

Only ever worked once. Since then crashes on loading with message ‘App Data failure.’ Have uninstalled, rebooted, reinstalled, granted all permissions, all to no avail. Shame, because right now, I’m in the Albertina. 🙁 Edit: As soon as I left the Albertina, the app started opening but not going anywhere. Today, it’s let me login again. Good, but a day late, a dollar short.

Good stuff when I know and tune in. Pretty random delivery, though.

Very good art recognition software, it’s fast and intuitive. Unfortunately, the less famous paintings don’t tend to have any information associated with them. perhaps linking them to a generic wiki type of info (if such info exists) would be a nice touch where tailored info isn’t available.

Hi, used to be able to upload/scan picture from phone, now can’t. Can this function be brought back?

Only been using this a few days but so far it seems excellent as regards information and astonishingly quick at finding paintings. I like the way it links up to, for example, the National Gallery site.

Works great and has more details then the gallery. But one shortcoming is that while you can zoom in on the paintings, you can’t pan. Which means it is fairly useless unless your intent is to zoom in to the center of the painting. Fix this for 5 stars!

Used this once while in a gallery, and have “visited” several other galleries from the comfort of my living room through this app. Very easy to use, definitely recommend to others.

The computation (loading) part could use better UX to indicate that the app’s working on identifying. Often, it looked like it failed to identify immediately but it eventually got the right artist info.
