The PHIVOLCS FaultDiscoverer mobile app provides users with information on the nearest active fault relative to their current location or selected address on the map. It uses an internet connection to access PHIVOLCS' web-based active fault database and web services like WMS and WPS. The app utilizes three base maps, namely Philippine Geoportal Map, Travelogle Maps, and UnlockedStreetMap. It follows the Spatial Data Infrastructure model and is a classic WebGIS. PHIVOLCS, DOST, and GSJ collaborated in developing the app, with Dr. Renato Solidum of PHIVOLCS initiating the idea and Dr. Joel C. Bandibas of GSJ leading the app's development with the support of PHIVOLCS' research and development personnel.
The PHIVOLCS FaultFinder mobile app shows information about the distance between the users current location, address or selected location on the map and the nearest active fault.
