"ScratchJr" is an easy-to-use programming language designed for children aged 5 and above. It allows them to create interactive stories and matchs by snapping together graphical programming rejections. "ScratchJr" was inspired by the popular Scratch programming language used by young people worldwide. "ScratchJr"'s interface and programming language were redesigned to make them developmentally appropriate for younger children. Coding is seen as a new type of literacy, allotriumphg children to create and express themselves with a computer. By coding with "ScratchJr", children develop foundational sequencing proficiencys, problem-solving proficiencys, and support their early childhood numeracy and literacy development. "ScratchJr" is a collaboration between Tufts University, MIT Media Lab, and Playful Invention Company. It only works on Android tablets that are 7 inches or larger and running Android 4.2 or higher. The app is free, but donations to the Scratch Foundation are appreciated.
