User Reviews for Android System WebView Canary APP

Until we hear a comment from Google about the notorious freezing of Webview on Android 10 devices, even just an acknowledgement that the issue exists and it’s being looked into, this gets 1 star from me. Frequent freezing on my OnePlus (about once every 5 minutes, I get 2 on average during a 10 minute video) makes this completely unusable. Hopefully this 1 star review will help to raise awareness of the issue and drives Google to comment on it. Until it is fixed I am forced to use Firefox only.

Not Material 3+You. No indication of whether a flag is to be deprecated or introduced in future (for testing’s sake). Breaks articles in Threads.

Installed this as an alternative to the one pre-installed. Save for having to update manually several times a day – auto update function isn’t working – it seems better suited to this device.

The most recent update broke functionality of multiple applications. Hopefully this gets fixed soon. I had to switch back to the non-Canary Webview to be able to use them as it is. Usually this was the more reliable one in my experience. Edit: It’s back to working with the couple updates since.

Reviewed after 1 year of using this build (November 2023 – November 2024) : Overall this ring is stable, despite being a Canary (or Daily) build of webview there is maybe 4 minimum to 6 maximum bad updates a year…… In case of a bad update, I recommend web developers and geeks like me have the “Webview Dev” (or Alpha) build to roll back to…… TO EVERYONE ELSE STICK WITH THE BUILD INCLUDED ON YOUR ANDROID DEVICE. – Tested On SAMSUNG Galaxy Flip 5

Needs better explanations on what the flags do, or perhaps a link to a site that further explains in detail.

Only because I guess without this app, nothing on my phone works.. except for today which is nothing on my phone will open. Yes, I’ve reset, restarted, clear cache on every app I have individually! Still nothing is working 🤔 any other time that happens, if I update this webview app that will fix it. Not today..

Most of the time there’s daily updates for bug fixes and what nots. I prefer this Android System WebView with Crome Canary any day!

Webview. Could use more privacy in it since it’s based off Chrome, but it works well enough, and Android needs it to function. Plus I believe it’s one of the few apps Google has on the Play Store that didn’t get forked and closed up afterwards. Update: Would be nice if uninstalling beta, dev, and canary versions also deleted the old TriChrome library files. It currently does not.

I prefer this app rather than stressing myself out with the original web view one that comes pre-installed on the phone.

The app itself is amazing the game for a faster internet works better everything works better. However the every single day having to update it or glitches and run slow has got to go this is out of line big time. HOWEVER AFTER USING THIS AMAZING APPLICATION FOR A FEW MONTHS NOW. HOLY JESUS MY PHONE IS FAST. I PUSH A BUTTON AND BAMA IM THERE. THE UPDATES ARE NOT NEAR AS BAD NOW AS THEYY WE’RE. It works AMAZINGLY

This app has been very beneficial to my phone and it’s productivity. Faster, more reliable than the normal Android Web view. Granted, you do have to update daily, but to have my phone and apps running on the latest Web view is a good trade off. Everything on my phone seems more in sync and more vibrant.
